Abstract
A novel means of particle characterization using Ion Exclusion Spectroscopy offers capabilities of providing size of individual particles in bulk numbers, while the sample remains in solution. Size analysis of bacteriorhodopsin (bR) is essential for its application into nano-sized solar cells because of its uniquely favorable characteristics of harvesting energy as a light-induced proton pump. Thus, research that observes the effects of pH on the size of purple membrane becomes essential in understanding the optimal conditions in which bR remains stable, and under which conditions does size reduction of the Purple Membrane in which the bR is embedded occur.
