Abstract
Dependability and adaptability are both the important issues of Web services. With the consideration of the features of Web services, an adaptive fault-tolerant mechanism is presented. It is based on a two-aspect context model including functional context and network context. Based on the context model, the paper designs an adaptive fault-tolerant framework for Web services, which involves in a series of fault-tolerant technologies, including construction of a layered failure detection system, dynamically adjustable failure detection, and an adaptive service restarting process. The experimental results show the effect of the adaptive mechanism, such as reducing the unnecessary restarting operations and promoting the accuracy of failure detection.
