Abstract
A modified monopole antenna with plate-loads for bandwidth enhancement is proposed in this paper. The modified monopole antenna is designed based on a semicircular-base monopole. Two rectangle plates are attached to its radiating edges to increase the frequency range significantly. Its radiation characteristics including impedance bandwidth, radiation patterns, and gain are simulated and measured. The results show that the rectangle plate-loads realize the bandwidth enhancement for planar monopole antenna effectively. The antenna with plat-loads produces an attractively better omnidirectional pattern over the broad bandwidth.
