Abstract :
A new range of advanced components are needed for the emerging field of multi-wavelength optical communications. The present talk will consider some of the challenges faced by InP-based multi-wavelength filters. They relate to such features as polarization-sensitivity and bandpass-shape, cross-talk and loss, uniformity and yield. We will consider these performance aspects and discuss their presence in the InP-based filters currently under investigation. We will also project forward to assess the future performance potential and the prospects for attaining high-performance, fully-integrated, monolithic WDM components
