Abstract
It is found that a properly designed notch patch can exhibit wideband and dual-band operations. The two resonant frequencies are probably the results of the coupling between the main patch and the notch resonant frequencies. Almost identical measured radiation patterns for the rectangular and notch patch antennas confirms that the current distribution is not affected by the notch in the patch. The maximum impedance bandwidths of 38% for band-1 and 27% for band-2 were achieved for a coax-feed single notch patch. It is found that a double-layered notch does not enhance the bandwidth.
