Abstract
This paper makes a comparison of various possible structures of high frequency resonant inverters. Four candidate topologies will be examined, that is, single stage resonant inverter with half bridge asymmetric PWM (SSRI-1), single stage resonant inverter with full bridge phase-shift PWM (SSRI-2), two stage with buck and resonant inverter (TSRI-1), and two stage with resonant inverter and AC chopper (TSRI-2). For each topology, the merits and demerits, as well as feasible application potentials will be highlighted. Power losses of the inverters will be analyzed and possible soft switching solutions for switching loss reduction will be studied. The waveform quality of the inverters will be analyzed as well.
