Abstract
Modern manufacturing technologies are now becoming more and more integrated and flexible. MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification), as a strong ISO standard located in the application layer of the OSI reference model, specifically designed for communication between programmable devices under a manufacturing environment, has been proven to play an important role in standardized manufacturing communication. After an introduction to MMS and several key concepts in it, the paper presents a practical way for applying MMS in Chinese manufacturing industry to help achieve the aim of shopfloor information integration
