Abstract
Once upon a time, radios were simple devices. Mainly using AM or FM modulation with frequency-domain multiple access techniques (a.k.a. channels) it was possible to test and troubleshoot these radios with correspondingly simple test equipment, and with no software at all. Given a known-to-be-broken radio, trained technicians at the I-level or depot level were able to test and troubleshoot using basic test equipment - voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
