  • Abstract
    Telstra is installing a hybrid fibre/coax (HFC) infrastructure to support a broadcast cable TV service which will pass four million homes by the end of 1999. In parallel Telstra runs a narrowband copper pair network. Paper studies have indicated that operations improvements can be made by enhancing the broadcast network to carry narrowband interactive services and telephony, which gives the option of retiring the copper pair network. At the same time, operations support systems and work practices can be updated to make good use of network intelligence and improve processes. This presentation examines the systems required to provide these promised benefits. In addition, we describe Telstra´s plans for a large scale trial to quantify them.
