Abstract
The interaction of SOF2 in SF6 buffer gas with alumina and zeolite 4A was investigated through adsorption experiments. The SOF2 species is completely adsorbed by alumina after a few days of exposure, while most SOF2 remains in the gas phase for zeolite 4A during a similar period. This important difference of behavior towards SOF2 is explained with respect to the diffusion process involved and the interaction sites available on the adsorbent. Moreover, the nature of adsorption sites (acidic, basic) present on the adsorbent and/or its initial moisture content apparently play a significant role in the hydrolysis of SOF2 into SO2. Considerations based on surface properties are used to explain the phenomena observed
