Abstract
This paper proposes an improved recursive retinex algorithm based on the McCann-Sobel algorithm for rendering high dynamic range photographs. In McCann-Sobel algorithm, the translation operations in various directions were taken sequentially. The influence on the central pixel from different directions would be different. This causes an asymmetric estimation of the illumination. In this paper, this problem is overcome and the halo artifacts are suppressed effectively. The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm has a good performance in rendering high dynamic range photographs.
