Abstract :
For high power applications, the first generation (1 G) high Tc superconducting (HTS) tapes have demonstrated applicable properties and can be produced in one thousand meters in length to make HTS coils. In term of the superconducting performance, the second generation (2 G) developed is superior to the 1 G, i.e. the critical current of 2 G is higher than the 1 G tape. However the detailed traits are necessary especially for practical applications. In order to identify experimentally the different performances, such as the magnetic field and the applied magnetic field angle effects, 1 G and 2 G HTS tapes are practically tested and compared at different conditions using a LabVIEW controlled test platform.
