Integration of power analysis software into a distribution management system

Ferranti Syseca´s Network Information Management System (NIMS) product has been applied as a distribution management system (DMS) for a regional electricity company. This system is to be used in the management of the customer´s distribution network at 132kV and 33kV. It is a distributed system over a number of geographically separate sites, consisting of three main components: SCADA; NIMS, incorporating a graphical user interface and the network management facilities such as event handling, switching schedules, report and safety document management, control authority transfers, online diagram amendment, diagram dressing and connectivity highlighting; and power analysis software (PAS). It is the power analysis component, and its integration into the complete system that is the focus of this paper
