Abstract
Although cost effective. it is very likely in resource sharing restoration scenarios that the insufficient backup resources on certain links may lead to an unsuccessful recovery. Achieving the required reliability level is an important consideration in selecting a path for a backup connection. We present a technique to calculate the reliability of a session connection, which consists of a primary and a backup connection, which can also be used to check the suitability of a path to be used as a backup connection.
