Abstract
This paper considers a novel combination of a scanning technique with the region based image coding scheme for better compression and for faster transmission is considered here. When applying predictive compression on image data there is an implicit assumption that the image scanned in a particular order may give a better compression. In addition region based coding has gained much favour in recent years. The efficiency of this algorithm in compressing an image having large uniform areas has been exploited here. A brief explanation of the hardware setup, which includes the important components is used to make the paper understandable. Finally, the results, though not entirely favourable yet, yield sufficient scope for its use in various applications in video transmission.
