Abstract
In order to advance the current state-of-the-art in router-level topology discovery, some researchers propose a new technique called subnets inference. Subnets, or point-to-point links in the backbone, can facilitate link discovery, IP alias resolution and so on. However, existing works perform poorly in accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new approach to infer subnets in the backbone networks based on the detailed analysis of collected traceroute paths (or traces). Using this approach, we examine the results on the traces collected from three real networks. As the results suggest, our methods not only identify more subnets but also make great progress in accuracy compared to the existing approaches.
