  • Abstract
Energy consumption across the world is increasing at a rapid rate and governments are concerned about the environmental pollution. Thus a modern power grid needs to become smarter in order to provide an affordable, reliable and sustainable supply of electricity. For these reasons, considerable activity has been carried out in the world to formulate and promote a vision for the development of future smart power grid. This paper reviews the initiatives taken by various governments across the world and also highlights how Saudi Arabia can benefit by implementing Smart grid technologies.
