Abstract
This paper reports the progress in developing an algorithm that alters the key of a piece of recorded music, commonly referred to as music transposition. The algorithm is based on Pade approximants and classical Fourier analysis. Pade approximants are used to identify both fundamental and harmonic frequencies in the music and the determined frequencies are used in two methods for transposition: (1) shifting peaks in the discrete Fourier transform to new locations and (2) construction of the transposed signal directly from the Pade approximation.
