Abstract :
According to the conditions that there is a serious lack of regional water resources and unreasonable utilization, the water footprint theory is proposed for regional water studies, some related concepts such as blue water, green water, virtual water and water footprint deficit are introduced, utilization of water resources as well as the actual distribution of water resources are shown through water footprint, it´s understood that either conventional water-saving strategy or the virtual water trade can be taken to solve the problem of regional water resources shortage through water footprint calculation and analysis, strategies like establishment of regular monitoring and warning mechanism, and safeguards like management mechanism, laws and standards mechanisms are proposed in order to keep the regional balance of water footprint and provide a theoretical support the sustainable use of regional water resources.
