  • Abstract
The article gives an overview of the capabilities of sensor systems combining the basic principles of SAW identification (ID) tags with the properties of SAW sensors. The concept of SAW telemetry systems created in this way has several advantages compared with other solutions, with the two most important being that the sensors themselves do not require any separate energy source when operating, and that the SAW ID-sensor can provide the data in a remote, cordless manner. Different concepts for remote accessing and identifying SAW sensors via a wireless system are considered. Experimental results using a SAW temperature sensor with the remote sensing capability demonstrate the basic concept of this idea
