Abstract :
Switching power conversion circuits require power inductors with large inductance and high quality factor (Q). The power inductor is usually large and occupies significant percentage of the power converter area. The integration of the power inductor in smaller size while marinating high performance is a challenge. This paper proposes and studies power inductors that utilize Multi-Walled concentric bundled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) for on chip integration. A circuit model is presented for the power inductor. Expressions to compute each element in this model are described. The simulation results using Sonnet Lite® and ADS® software are presented to compare different configurations of bundles of concentric MWCNTs for a single-layer spiral power inductor. Simulation results confirmed the stability and good performance of the inductor.
