Abstract
In order to implement the sharing of remote sensing data over the Internet, we proposed an original approach to acquire and integrate remote sensing image metadata using grid service. Firstly, we encapsulated the metadata extracting algorithms and metadata retrieving algorithms into grid services, which can be called on the Web with SOAP messages; secondly, a grid service registry that enables the resource providers to publish their grid services was established; thirdly, we proposed an agent service to discover, bind and invoke the grid services dynamically according to the service interface and WSDL address. Based on the grid service registry and the agent service, user queries can be transmitted to all resource providers, and the query results will be aggregated by agent service before returned to users. We have developed a prototype system using the above approach, which can integrate the optical and microwave images from two different organizations efficiently.
