Abstract :
The presence of a compensation effect in the electrical conductivity of aged XLPE-insulated cable models is investigated. It is shown that the logarithm of the pre-exponential term and the thermal activation energy of the steady DC conduction process are linearly related, according to the compensation effect, when cable models aged for different times and under different stresses are considered. This result improves when the actual steady DC conductivity, estimated by an appropriate model, is taken into account
