Abstract
This article describes the benefits of FPGA prototypes for functional verification of ASIC designs. Those will be balanced by some of the difficulties associated with the creation of FPGA prototypes. Turnkey emulation is proposed as an alternative that removes most of the hurdles associated with FPGA prototypes
