Abstract
100Base-X is an evolutionary jump to high speed 100 Mb/s networking from the most popular network technology ever invented, 10 Mb/s Ethernet. This jump was made possible in a timely fashion by merging two existing networking schemes, Ethernet and the fiber distributed data interface (FDDI). The paper examines the new 100Base-X technology while exposing its Ethernet and FDDI roots
