Abstract
Code division multiple access (CDMA) allows simultaneous access to network facilities and enables independent and concurrent communication among the users. We propose a hybrid pulse position modulation (PPM) with CDMA. The hybrid can usefully be exploited in optical wireless and optical fibre networks. Original results are presented for the scheme under various coding schemes (optical orthogonal codes, prime codes and extended prime codes). The implications of using each coding scheme are evaluated in terms of error rate, number of users and bandwidth requirements
