Abstract
Professional communicators are faced with a vast array of delivery media ranging from paper to multimedia and virtual reality. At the same time, we often lack clear guidance when selecting the best medium or media mix for a given content, user, task and environment. This paper will examine these important issues and challenge our current focus on communication technologies as solutions in and of themselves. Instead, this paper develops an integrated model that incorporates the medium, symbol system, instructional methodology as well as the learner
