Abstract
In today´s Department of Defense environment there is significant focus to optimize the output of the Logistic Supply Chain system. The DoD´s mission support strategy is to implement knowledge based logistics to support the war-fighter through automated asset visibility and management. The customer requires a single, fully integrated Life Cycle Support (LCS) solution. Under a Performance Based Logistics (PBL) program, the warfighter enters requisitions for failed items into the unit´s requisitioning system. The requisitions are routed to a receiving point (usually a Depot), which in turn forwards replacement parts directly to the warfighter from PBL inventory. The failed items are returned to the Depot and are inducted for repair or modification as needed to maintain availability fill rates.
