Abstract :
LXI defines a LAN message that communicates timing and events in a system. These messages are known as LXI LAN Triggers. There are several ways to use LXI LAN Triggers, including: to trigger an operation in an instrument to provide an asynchronous message from an instrument to the computer to communicate between instruments, for instance, a digitizer can tell a signal generator to advance to the next frequency Events are also used in conjunction with the IEEE 1588 real-time clock. When used in this way, events can specify the time that the triggered operation is supposed to occur. Pre- triggering can be done by specifying a time that transpired before the trigger arrived at the recipient. This paper describes LXI Events, their applications, instrument APIs for events, and controller event programming.
