  • Abstract
    The microtrack model for transition noise with partial erasure in thin film media has been shown to be a useful tool for simulating and analyzing detector performance under realistic conditions. However, several effects resulting from interactions between neighboring transitions are not accounted for in this model. These effects include transition broadening, increased transition noise, and nonlinear transition shift (NLTS). A simple modification to the microtrack model to incorporate the demagnetization field of neighboring transitions is presented. NLTS, transition broadening and increased transition noise as well as their interaction with the partial erasure effect directly result. The resulting effects are shown to agree with those seen in an experiment
