Abstract
This paper describes the development flow for a Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) modem. The development flow described involves: (1) choosing a feature set and (2) selecting a development approach. In order to help inform these decisions, some background is provided to describe the elements of a CDPD modem as they relate to the functioning of the CDPD system. An example of a hypothetical development effort is described to illustrate the selection and execution of a development approach that is consistent with project goals and constraints. The particular case chosen illustrates a cost-effective approach for developing a CDPD modem capability that is to be fully integrated into a point of sale terminal
