Abstract
In our previous work we proposed a service- oriented and user-centric intrusion detection system (SUIDS) for pervasive/ubiquitous computing. The inherent features of pervasive computing request an IDS to give special concerns about resource-efficiency. In this paper, we discuss the existing resource-efficient solutions used in intrusion detection systems and refine the SUIDS with new techniques. Specifically, the paper shows how a user profile is managed in a distributed pattern to reduce the communication cost; and how a hybrid metric is used to extend the network lifetime. As a result, SUIDS achieves better performance in terms of energy efficiency while keeping high detection effectiveness.
