Abstract
This paper presents our efforts towards a smart bandage with incorporated miniaturized wireless functional near infrared spectroscopy system as a sensor node for wearable body area networks. The built prototype was used to successfully transmit deoxygenation of forearm muscle tissue during pressure cuff induced ischemia through an established Bluetooth link. The system can run over 4 hours continuously sampling at 150 Hz with provided 90mAh lithium polymer batteries and transmit data to distances more than 75 meters.
