Abstract :
Wireless medical devices have flooded the commercial market in recent years. The projected growth of wireless biosensors predicts there will be 100 million wireless medical devices within the U.S. alone by 2016. This paper presents an overview of current research and commercial devices. Examples of commercial systems help to provide context for the breadth of wireless medical devices available today. An overview of current research efforts helps to understand where the future of this industry is headed. Wireless systems will play an important part of future healthcare technology. Wireless medical devices are making telemedicine systems a reality. This includes remote monitoring of patients in their homes and even remote monitoring as they move about during their normal day-to-day activities.
