Abstract :
Changes and trends in the control technology for large-scale industrial processes are explored. The two layer hierarchical architecture used to model such processes is updated to incorporate recent industrial control solutions. The theoretical control system problems rising from this augmented structure are identified and listed. These include control structure selection, stability studies for complicated networks of simple controllers with advanced features like constraint satisfaction or adaptation, and loop tuning methods of industrial control problems
