  • Abstract
As the automation process gains its momentum across the whole industry sector, the demands on high quality iron and steel products is ever increasing there days. In order to meet their demands, Pohang Steel and Iron Company (POSCO) is undergoing a number of renovation steps at every stage, and a number of innovative ideas and systems are being developed and implemented on current settings. These are, however, just the beginning of the renovation processes and much more research and development work is to be performed to prepare for the 21st century. Obviously, a large portion of these R and D works are closely related to control and instrumentation technologies. This paper presents the research issues in steel making process control that are under development or under consideration at Pohang Iron and Steel Company (POSCO)
