Abstract :
The authors present the concept, the components, and the programming environment of a multipurpose associative processor based on a microprogrammable cascadable slice-processor architecture. This processor can be applied in control applications, especially in real-time automotive control applications. The processor executes the instructions of a program in a sequential manner. However, the powerful associative instructions allow a parallel manipulation of stored data sets. Particular attention is given to the associative processor environment with its software development tools and languages. These software tools support an optimal specification of applications, which are defined on different abstraction levels
