Abstract :
This paper proposes asymmetric carrier frequency allocation (ACA) for TDMA/FDD cellular systems, in which a pair of frequency bands are used. In ACA, the carrier frequencies from both frequency bands are allocated both to up-links and to down-links, and at the same time, frequency separation between the carrier frequencies of the up- and down-links is ensured for each cell, which makes it possible to allocate the carrier frequencies of both frequency bands asymmetrically to the up- and down-links as needed. Computer simulations show ACA to support greater carried traffic than does conventional carrier frequency allocation, 25% and 67% greater, respectively, when the traffic ratios of congested links are 70% and 90%
