Abstract
With the large-scale interconnection of power systems, the control and operation among geographically distributed, structurally heterogeneous and autonomous power systems becomes increasingly complicated. Grid Computing (GC) is a novel technology for integration and management of computing resources from multiple administrative domains applied to a common task, especially for problems which are computational-intensive or/and data-intensive. This paper gives a review of the research activities of recent years in the field of GC application to power system problems, along with an introduction to the technologies utilized in GC research and application. The opportunities and challenges of GC for future smart power systems are also discussed.
