Abstract :
This study discusses the water treatment technology, which could be used to accelerate the effectiveness of ozonation process when it is combined with the process of ion exchange. An effluent from a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Taipei is employed as the target sample. The results show that by ozonation alone, the TOC removal from the effluent could be achieved as maximum up to 49%. Further ozonation provides no significant effectiveness. Yet, when ozonation is used as pretreatment process followed by ion exchange process, a total of 74%, 74% and 91% TOC removal are achieved within 10 min pre-ozonation under initial pH of 3, 7 and 11, separately. A total of 94% TOC removal could be achieved within 30 min pre-ozonation under initial pH of 7 and 20 min pre-ozonation under initial pH of 11 followed by ion exchange treatment. 10 min pre-ozonation provides a maximum up to 28% promotion for ion exchange process in removing TOC. However, further pre-ozonation time and different initial pH show no significant improvements and influences for ion exchange process in removing TOC.
