Abstract :
An overview of advanced flywheel development for energy storage in aerospace applications is presented. The advantages offered by this emerging technology are reviewed and the major development challenges that need to be addressed are identified. The approach being used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and United States Air Force (USAF) towards developing the technology is presented
