Abstract :
Many oil and gas industries follow a developed guideline, which is based on experience, when setting up the rating limits for selecting an induction or a synchronous motor. This question is a common one, and the answer is not quite as simple as it may seem. Many factors must be taken into consideration, where the output rating is definitely one of those factors, but not the only one. This paper will address the different factors that must be studied prior to making the selection; whether the driver is to be an induction motor or a synchronous one.
