  • Abstract
Two grating surface substrates, in which the groove´s directions are orthogonal each other, can be used to manufacture liquid crystal cell. According to the anchoring property of grating surface substrate, selecting appropriate geometrical parameter and anchoring strength of grating surface substrate, the liquid crystal cell with two crossed-grating surface substrates can realize twist nematic (TN) display mode. In this paper, applying the Jones matrix method, the electro-optical property of the liquid crystal cell with two crossed-grating surface substrates is investigated in detail dividing into two cases. One case is that these two grating surface substrates of liquid crystal cell are seen to be same, the other case is that these two grating surface substrates of liquid crystal cell are seen to be different. The transmittance of this liquid crystal cell is strongly dependent on the geometrical parameters of two grating surface substrates.
