Abstract
Experimental investigation of the reaction between hydrogen and metallic oxides is presented. This material, which can irreversibly getter hydrogen from closed systems, has been developed for mitigation of hydrogen inside the fusion reactor. The most efficient formulation is manganese oxide promoted by silver oxide (10% weight) and prepared by the mixing powder technique. The kinetics of hydrogen gettering was investigated and shows that the material reacts with sufficient rate to prevent a hydrogen explosion in a closed system. The capacity of this material was found to be 0.18 m3 H2 STP/kg MnO2 at room temperature
