Abstract
A very flexible transmission system for multimedia over the mobile Internet is proposed. For a mobile Internet scenario a combination of a lossy packet-switched network and a mobile network is assumed. Conventional solutions are based on a separation of both networks. The new system is able to manage both packet-losses and bit errors in a single decoding step without any transcoding. Furthermore the system can be adapted easily to the current channel states of both networks in a very flexible way with a minimum of signalling overhead. In a simulation example the performance of the new system is shown using a parallel concatenated convolutional code.
