Abstract
Many telecom operators are attracted by the prospect of deploying energy-dense lithium-ion batteries but at the same time are aware of the large-scale recalls of laptop computer batteries and reports of problems with lithium metal polymer batteries in telecom outside plant applications. The publicity associated with such incidents is inevitably highly negative for both the battery manufacturer and the operator.
