Abstract :
In high-power applications, typically serviced by hydraulic devices, electromechanical actuators promise improved reliability, performance, controllability, and efficiency. Brushless machine technology is ideally suited for EMA applications. In this paper, a simulation model for the brushless machine is developed and validated. A general framework for health monitoring of brushless machines is presented and evaluated. The health monitoring framework is based on the adaptive Kalman filter and employs the simulation model. Laboratory validation is provided, and critical issues for further development are presented
