Abstract :
A programmable stand-alone controller (PAC) is described, whose application reduces the data-communication response time between the peripherals and the CPU, and thus reduces hardware costs and increases the usage of the bus. With the increasing advances in VLSI CMOS technology, the PAC has been realized. It is shown that, by increasing the processing capabilities of the peripheral controller (such as the PAC), the data transfers and control of the system bus by the CPU can be almost totally eliminated, and the CPU released from a considerable amount of routine time-consuming work
