Abstract :
This paper describes the performance of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy conversion system (WECS) using modified hill climb searching (HCS) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm. The proposed system consists of back to back sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) converters. The generator side converter is used to track the maximum wind power using modified HCS algorithm. The grid side inverter is to feed the generated wind power to an isolated grid by regulating dc-link voltage and unity power factor (UPF) in grid. This model is developed and simulated in MATLAB / SIMULINK. The performance of the proposed control approach is validated through simulation results.
