Abstract :
The authors present a system model and software and hardware support for voice and data integration (voice packetization, queuing, merging, and signaling). Test results and troubleshooting procedures in the line-error environment are highlighted. Experiments with the length of a voice packet, with a line speed, with an error generator on simulated data and on artificial voice, and with a full laboratory conversational test are also described. Specifications for a voice and data integrator custom IC based on the test results and the collected knowledge are established and presented. The achievable limits with today´s technology for the voice and data integration custom IC are up to 144 kb/s, with a line high-speed data rate of up to 160 kb/s
